2026 - Former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, has explained why he
chose not to attend the burial of late Emurua Dikirr MP, Johana Ng’eno, despite
their close friendship.
In a strongly worded statement on Friday, March 6th,
Gachagua said his principles could not allow him to sit alongside leaders he
accused of tormenting Ng’eno during his lifetime.
“I have seen your tormentors who hunted you like an antelope
shedding crocodile tears and shamelessly pretending to mourn your death.”
“I would have wanted to come and bury you, but my principles
can’t allow me to sit with those who persecuted you in life as they pretend to
love you in death,” Gachagua declared.
He went on to eulogize Ng’eno as a brave, brilliant and
selfless leader who gave his all for his people.
Gachagua described him as a confidant and political soul
mate, praising his courage in championing the interests of the Kipsigis
community, which he said had long been marginalized.
Ng’eno died on February 28th, alongside five
others, in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the aircraft
was flying from Endebes to Mosoriot when it went down at around 4:30 p.m., with
poor visibility due to heavy rains suspected as a factor.
The late MP, serving his third term, was laid to rest on
Friday in Narok County, following a joint funeral service at Emurua Dikirr
Primary School graced by President Ruto and senior Government officials.
