Two arrested after police recover 30 rounds of ammunition being ferried in a PSV bus at a roadblock along Garissa-Thika Highway (PHOTOs)



Tuesday, February 3, 2026 - A multi-agency security team intercepted a public service vehicle and recovered 30 rounds of live ammunition during a routine operation along the Garissa-Thika Highway in Kanyonyoo, Lower Yatta Sub-County.

According to police, the officers were manning a roadblock when they stopped the vehicle for inspection.

A subsequent search led to the discovery of a backpack left on one of the passenger seats containing the ammunition.

Two suspects were immediately arrested in connection with the recovery and escorted to Kanyonyoo Police Station for processing ahead of their arraignment in court.

The vehicle was detained as investigations continue, while the recovered ammunition was secured as an exhibit.

The National Police Service (NPS) reiterated its commitment to cracking down on the illegal possession and movement of firearms and ammunition, noting that such operations are aimed at enhancing public safety and security.
