2026 - Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, has launched a thinly veiled attack at
ODM leader, Dr. Oburu Oginga, declaring that the late former Prime Minister
Raila Odinga remains the only political figure he has ever taken instructions
from.
Speaking in Tassia, Embakasi Ward, on Monday, February 2nd,
2026, during the distribution of bursary forms, Owino insisted that no other
politician holds authority over him.
“The last boss I had in politics was Raila Amollo Odinga.”
“For me to be here, I must be a leader. Was I not elected in
one of the largest constituencies in Kenya?” Owino posed, underscoring that his
mandate comes directly from the electorate.
The outspoken legislator dismissed attempts by senior
politicians to lecture or intimidate him, stressing that his legitimacy is
drawn from voters.
“Those big people who think they are ahead of us have
nothing to show me because it is you who elected me.”
“Even if we went back to by-elections, would they defeat me?
You are my bosses. Let me remain loyal to you,” he said.
Owino further emphasized that beyond Raila Odinga, he
answers only to God and the people.
“My boss was the one who was above; nobody else will be my
leader up there. It is God first, then you,” he declared.
While asserting his independence, Owino clarified that
respect for older leaders should be earned.
“Anyone who thinks they can be my boss, I will only give you
respect because you are older than me.”
“I will also grow old one day. Let people respect each
other,” he added.
Owino is among a section of ODM legislators opposed to the
party’s reported plan to enter a coalition with President William Ruto’s UDA
ahead of the 2027 elections, a faction that also includes ODM Secretary General
Edwin Sifuna.
