Thursday, February 05, 2026 - Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Nelson Havi, has launched a scathing attack against President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), accusing the ruling party of moral collapse and democratic decay as he formally aligned himself with Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
In an interview on NTV Kenya, Havi said his decision was not
triggered by a single incident but by a steady erosion of internal democracy
and respect within UDA.
He cited the April 2024 grassroots elections as his first
grievance, claiming that he was barred from voting despite being a registered
member.
“I was not in the voter register, had already been removed.”
“They’d picked some nameless lady from Homa Bay and brought her to
be the UDA chairperson here.”
“That is when it became clear to me this was not a democratic
party,” he stated.
Havi added that public perception of UDA as a corrupt regime
made his continued association untenable.
“I walk in the streets, I drive by myself, I’ve not stolen
anybody’s money.”
“And people would mock me, saying ‘Havi you are a good person,
leave that party,’” he said.
After resigning from UDA in October 2025, Havi spent months
without party affiliation before settling on DCP.
He described Gachagua’s outfit as a principled formation,
rejecting claims that it is a refuge for political failures.
“People are calling them rebels or rejects, but these are the
original Kenya Kwanza leaders,” he argued.
Havi insisted that his move was not about loyalty to
Gachagua but about embracing DCP’s institutional approach to politics.
In a sharp jab at UDA, he quipped: “Rigathi
Gachagua is enlisting stallions and mares. The other guy is enlisting
emasculated eunuch mules. What more damage can you cause to a mule?”
