Kiambu Speaker, CHARLES THIONG’O, claims his life is in danger after failed impeachment bid against Governor WAMATANGI

Tuesday, February 03, 2026 - The Speaker of the Kiambu County Assembly, Charles Thiong’o, has alleged that his life is in danger following a failed attempt to impeach Governor Kimani Wamatangi.

On Tuesday, February 3rd, Thiong’o filed a formal complaint with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), claiming that he has been trailed by unknown men, some of whom traced him to his home.

He said his wife raised an alarm after spotting a black Ford Ranger parked outside their gate.

“I am fearful, and more so for my family. If somebody wants to harm me, they can do so from out here, but when they come within my personal space, I have every reason to believe that there is an ulterior motive,” Thiong’o stated.

Through his lawyer, the Speaker demanded that investigators establish the identity of the men and their accomplices.

He was accompanied by several Members of County Assembly (MCAs), who also claimed to have received anonymous threats.

“We know that people are plotting to impeach Governor Wamatangi and want to intimidate the Speaker into allowing an impeachment motion to be filed,” Kiu MCA, Zacharuah Machariah, remarked.

The MCAs issued a two‑week ultimatum to the DCI to investigate and apprehend those behind the threats.

Machariah assured Governor Wamatangi of their support, saying that any impeachment attempt must follow constitutional procedures.

Last week, MCAs alleged that Ksh100 million had been offered to bribe them into removing the county boss from office.
