Thursday, January 08, 2025 - A viral photo of Mama Ida Odinga warmly embracing ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has ignited speculation about her stance in the party’s ongoing wrangles.
The image, captured during Raila Odinga’s 81st birthday
commemoration at her Karen residence yesterday, shows Mama Ida hugging Sifuna
as other ODM leaders looked on - including those keen to oust him from his
position.
Mama Ida urged leaders to safeguard the values Raila
championed, describing his leadership as firm yet fair, anchored in
consultation and the will of the people.
“Let us solve the problems of the party by always asking
ourselves: What would Raila have done under these circumstances?” she said.
Her remarks come amid a widening rift between Sifuna and
Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, which has exposed divisions within the party.
The embrace was widely interpreted as a symbolic vote of
confidence in Sifuna, who had earlier met ODM leader, Dr. Oburu Oginga.
Taking to social media, Sifuna expressed gratitude for the invitation, writing: “Your strength in the midst of this heavy loss inspires us all. May Baba continue resting in peace. God bless.”
