Thursday, January 8,
2026 - As part of the ongoing nationwide crackdown on narcotics and other
illicit drugs, the National
Police Service has intensified operations aimed at dismantling
drug trafficking networks and curbing the movement of illegal substances.
Yesterday, officers deployed within Nairobi’s Central Business District
(CBD) carried out a well-coordinated operation in the Nyamakima area, where they intercepted and impounded
a lorry suspected of transporting illegal goods.
The vehicle was escorted to the Nairobi Area Traffic Yard
for further inspection.
A thorough search uncovered fourteen sacks containing approximately 90 kilograms of
unprocessed cannabis sativa (bhang) concealed inside the
vehicle.
The driver and his assistant were arrested on the scene and
are currently in police custody, pending further investigations and subsequent
arraignment.
The operation underscores the National Police Service’s commitment to combating drug trafficking, disrupting the circulation of illegal narcotics, and safeguarding public safety through proactive policing measures.
