Wednesday, January 21, 2026 - Cleophas Malala, Deputy Leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), has ignited fresh political controversy after alleging that Suna East MP, Junet Mohamed, secretly worked with President William Ruto’s camp during the 2022 General Elections.
Speaking on Tuesday, January 20th, Malala claimed
that Junet routinely met Ruto at night to brief him on internal affairs within
the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), even while Raila Odinga was still the
party’s presidential candidate.
“Junet used to come to see William Ruto and brief him on
everything,” Malala said, adding that ODM’s grassroots structures and lists of
agents were allegedly leaked to UDA strategists.
Malala’s explosive remarks come amid renewed infighting
within ODM over the handling of campaign funds.
Earlier this month, Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary
General, Edwin Sifuna, accused Junet of misappropriating money meant for
election agents, arguing that failure to pay them weakened ODM’s electoral
machinery and contributed to its defeat.
“When you were pocketing Uhuru’s money instead of paying
agents, you allowed the current administration to defeat us,” Sifuna charged.
Junet, however, dismissed the accusations, insisting that
funds for agents were never under his control.
He claimed that former President Uhuru Kenyatta released the
money to his brother, Muhoho Kenyatta, who then tasked Peter Mburu with
managing recruitment and payments.
Junet accused Sifuna of acting on behalf of Uhuru within ODM
and challenged all parties involved to publicly account for their roles.
“Kenyans deserve the truth about the handling of agents’
money; who controlled it, who mishandled it, and who cost us the election,” he
declared.
The claims have reignited debate over ODM’s internal
fractures and the factors behind its 2022 electoral loss.
