Tuesday, January 27, 2026 - Tension ran high at Kangai Primary School in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, after irate parents stormed the institution and forcefully evicted the headteacher following a dispute over a recent school fee hike.
According to eyewitnesses, the parents accused the school
administration of unilaterally increasing fees without proper
consultation, a move they said placed an unfair financial burden on families.
In the dramatic incident captured on video, parents are seen
confronting the headteacher, demanding explanations and calling for his
immediate removal from the school premises.
Shouting and heated exchanges marked the standoff as the
parents insisted that the fee increment be reversed.
The incident comes amid growing complaints across the
country, with school heads increasingly facing accusations of exploiting
parents through unauthorized fee hikes, leaving many families
struggling financially amid tough economic times.
