PANYAKO claims RUTO offered him Cabinet Secretary post after Malava by-election defeat and why he declined

Wednesday, December 03, 2025 - Seth Panyako, the united opposition’s parliamentary candidate in the Malava by-elections, has alleged that Ruto’s Government approached him with an offer of a Cabinet Secretary position shortly after his defeat.

Speaking during a Radio Maisha interview on December 3rd, 2025, Panyako said he rejected the offer, citing violence and intimidation he claims to have endured during the election period.

“Shamelessly, on the 28th they are telling me that they want to make me a Cabinet Secretary.”

“Did I go for an election to be a minister?”

“This is the highest level of inhumanity.”

“It appears like we are being led by sycophants,” he stated.

The DAP-K candidate further revealed that he had received a similar offer in 2022.

At the time, he said he told President William Ruto to appoint someone else to the Principal Secretary role, as he already had another job.

Panyako, the former Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Nurses, noted that he had campaigned for Ruto during the 2022 elections while still a member of the UDA party.

He added that his supporters in Malava had backed his decision to reject the Government’s latest overture.

“Many have messaged me, and the people of Kabras have told me ‘do not dare join that bloody Government,’” he claimed.

He also alleged that some of his agents were bribed with Ksh 15,000 by opponents and accused police of complicity in election-related attacks.

According to him, a police officer warned of an impending assault, forcing him into hiding before the polls.

Panyako ultimately lost narrowly to UDA candidate David Ndakwa in the November 27th by-election.
