KALONZO reveals when Opposition will unveil its presidential candidate to face RUTO in 2027 elections

Wednesday, December 31, 2027 - Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, has announced that the united opposition will unveil its 2027 presidential candidate in the first quarter of 2026.

Speaking on Tuesday, December 30th, during a public address, the former Vice President assured Kenyans that the coalition is committed to presenting a flagbearer well ahead of the next General Elections.

“By the first quarter of 2026, the name of our presidential candidate will be made known to Kenyans. I will personally do everything possible to hold our team together,” Kalonzo stated.

He added that once consensus is reached, the opposition will embark on a nationwide campaign to popularize its candidate.

At the same time, Kalonzo criticized proposals to hold a referendum alongside the 2027 polls, alleging that it is a Government scheme to extend presidential term limits through constitutional changes.

“This is so they can manipulate the process and attempt to extend their grip on power through backdoor constitutional changes.”

“There is no constitutional crisis in our country. Nothing can stop this election based on boundary reviews,” he said.

The united opposition brings together Kalonzo, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, PLP leader, Martha Karua, DAP-K leader, Eugene Wamalwa, Former Cabinet Secretaries, Fred Matiang’i, Mithika Linturi and Justin Muturi.

Matiang’i, endorsed by Jubilee as its 2027 flagbearer, has been hosting delegations in Nyamira County to consolidate his base.

Other figures eyeing the Presidency include former Chief Justice David Maraga and activist Boniface Mwangi.
