Wednesday, December
31, 2025 - Suna East Member of Parliament, Junet Mohamed, has fired back at
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna following his
public apology to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In a bold social media post, Junet declared himself the
official spokesperson of what he termed the “washenzi” group within ODM,
directly challenging Sifuna’s recent criticism of party leaders.
“I shall be the spokesperson of the ‘WASHENZI’ Group in the
Mighty ODM party. Without fear and favor, so help me God,” he wrote, tagging
prominent figures including Hassan Joho, Gladys Wanga, A.S Nassir and Arati
Simba.
Junet’s remarks appeared to reference Sifuna’s comments at
the burial of former Cabinet Minister Cyrus Jirongo in Kakamega County on
December 30th.
During the ceremony, Sifuna apologized to Uhuru, saying ODM
leaders had forgotten the former President’s support for Raila Odinga’s past
campaigns.
“I want to apologize to you, Uhuru Kenyatta, and ask for
forgiveness on behalf of our Party for the insults you have been receiving,”
Sifuna stated.
Junet, however, insisted that multiparty democracy thrives
only when ODM remains in opposition, adding, “There are very few fools in
Kenya.”
His response underscores widening rifts within the party over
its relationship with Uhuru and the broader political realignments ahead of
2027.
The dispute comes amid escalating criticism of Uhuru by ODM
officials.
On December 28th, while addressing a rally in
Homa Bay attended by President William Ruto, Governor Gladys Wanga accused
Uhuru of using insiders to sow divisions within ODM, warning that the party will
resist such maneuvers.
The exchanges highlight deepening internal conflict as ODM
grapples with its future political direction after the demise of Raila Odinga.
