2025 - Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, held a closed-door meeting with acting
ODM party leader, Oburu Oginga, at the party’s Orange House headquarters on Thursday
morning.
The meeting comes days after Oburu assured Babu of support
for his 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial ambitions.
Photos from the meeting showed the two leaders in a warm
exchange before retreating into Oburu’s office for what appeared to be an
extended private discussion.
The encounter comes amid growing speculation over Babu’s
political future following the death of ODM’s longtime leader, Raila Odinga.
Babu, who has declared interest in the Nairobi Governor’s
seat, had raised concerns over whether he will be fairly considered in the
party’s nomination process.
His meeting with Oburu is seen as a strategic move to
reaffirm his standing within ODM and calm concerns over internal party
dynamics.
Earlier in the week, Oburu addressed the matter during a
televised interview on Ramogi TV.
“I do not see anything wrong with Babu Owino… If he wins the
nominations, he will get the ticket. Let him not run away,” Oburu said.
“I’ve sent people to look for him. I know I will find him soon so we can talk and I can tell him to keep calm and not worry,” Oburu added.
