Wednesday, September 3, 2025 - Nairobi Members of County Assembly demanded the removal of two main assistants to Governor Johnson Sakaja as part of an agreement to drop their bid to impeach him.
They want the aides David Njoroge and Osman Khalif and
finance bosses Charles Kerich and Aisha Abdi to be dropped from their roles.
They argued the officials have been disrespectful to them.
They also claimed that the officials mislead the governor in
making major decisions.
“There is one Osman and Davy. Then there is Aisha who is
leading in misleading the governor. We want them to be set aside for now,” said
the MCAs.
Abdi is the Chief Finance Officer at the county and is seen
to be powerful and controlling. The same applies to Kerich. Efforts to their
comments were futile.
The Nairobi MCAs had presented their concerns, which they
said were sufficient to impeach Sakaja.
The ward representatives, who had already secured enough
signatures, accused the governor of sidelining them and implementing
development projects without consultation.
They however dropped the bid after the intervention of
leading party officials including Raila Odinga and president William Ruto.
The MCAs questioned how the Ward Development Fund had been
utilised, as well as the criteria used to select projects and award bursaries
in the county.
The Nairobi governor, who was present at both meetings,
pledged to involve the county assembly through consultations in running county
affairs.
The principals of the broad-based government on Tuesday held
separate meetings to save Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja from a looming
impeachment push by ward representatives.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ward representatives put
the plan to impeach Governor Sakaja on hold for 30 days following the
intervention of party leader Odinga.
At State House, Nairobi, Ruto secured more wiggle room for
the beleaguered governor by persuading UDA MCAs to work with him.
The MCAs had expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of
key issues in the capital.
After day-long consultations chaired separately by President
Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, the Nairobi MCAs dropped the impeachment
motion against Governor Sakaja.
