Wednesday, July 31, 2024 - Nyeri County Governor Mutahi Kahiga has warned that President William Ruto will be treading on dangerous ground if he allows his close lieutenants to table an impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Twenty-one Members of Parliament, led by Kikuyu MP Kimani
Ichungwah, are drafting a motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The Deputy President is accused of undermining the presidency, gross
misconduct, and sponsoring and financing the Gen Z protests that saw President
William Ruto withdraw the Finance Bill 2024 and fire all his cabinet members.
Speaking about the looming impeachment, Gachagua‘s ally and Nyeri County
Governor, Mutahi Kahiga, said the second in command is accused of opposing the
Finance Bill 2024 in the cabinet chaired by President William Ruto.
Kahiga said Gachagua is being impeached for siding with Kenyans who
overwhelmingly rejected the retrogressive and uncouth bill.
"We are told that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua opposed the Finance Bill during a Cabinet meeting.
"We should clap for that man because the Finance Bill was ultimately rejected by
Kenyans," Kahiga told journalists on Wednesday.
