Thursday, February 29, 2024 - Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has revealed what happened during his recent meeting with President William Ruto and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda.
Speaking during the Homa Bay
investment conference yesterday, Raila revealed that he had planned to meet
Museveni in advance, stating that campaigns for the African Union Commission
chairperson post topped the agenda.
However, he further explained
that President Ruto had also scheduled a visit to Uganda on the same day, with
his main focus being the recent fallout in fuel importation.
He added that given that the duo
was present, he took the opportunity to ask them to support his bid.
The ODM boss also revealed
that Museveni offered to back his candidature and be the main man
behind his bid.
"I talked to both of them
and they agreed to support me. Museveni agreed to support me and he even stated
that he would be the one to propose my candidature," he stated.
Raila made the remarks after
reports suggested that the ODM boss was the one who orchestrated the Monday
meeting.
Various reports suggested that
the ODM boss sought to have Ruto and Museveni reach a truce over contentious
fuel importation deal given that it would have impacted on his
candidature.
Unconfirmed reports also alleged
that the duo travelled together using the presidential jet.
