Is RAILA ODINGA the next African Union Chairman following RUTO’s endorsement? - LOOK!

Thursday, January 11, 2024 - A prominent Kenyan blogger has said former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will become the next African Union Chairman, following President William Ruto’s decision to back his candidacy.

Mousa Faki is expected to retire as AU chairman this year and Raila Odinga is among senior African leaders who have expressed their interest for the top job.

President William Ruto has already endorsed Raila Odinga's bid and according to blogger Abuga Makori, with the President's backing, Jakom is the next African Union Chief.

"Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga will be the next AU Commission Chair. He will take over from Moussa Faki of Chad. Faki defeated our very own Amina Mohamed narrowly in 2017.

"With President William Ruto's support and his international network, this is a done deal,” Makori wrote on his X platform.

Raila Odinga has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in Kenyan politics and a strong reputation as a champion of African unity.

He also has the backing of his own government, which makes his candidacy almost unbeatable.

The former Prime Minister, who is 79 years old, has built strong connections across the continent through years of diplomatic work and close cooperation with many African leaders and he is currently the man to beat in the next AU chief contest.
