- Tensions are mounting within Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens
Party (DCP) after Kirinyaga Senator, Kamau Murango, accused Deputy Leader
Cleophas Malala of engaging in extortion and undermining the party’s image.
Speaking on Inooro TV, Murango claimed that the party
harbors “moles” intent on sabotaging the opposition.
“Malala can do anything for the money. You can’t tell me you are in
the party and your work is to go out collecting money, soiling the party’s
name,” Murango said.
Murango accused Malala of neglecting his Western Kenya base
while Gachagua consolidates support in Mt. Kenya.
“He has left people in Western Kenya to do whatever they want, even
though he should be helping us there.”
“He doesn’t speak there,” he said.
“I don’t know his relationship with the party leader,
but for me, we don’t get along.” he asserted.
He also criticized Malala for allegedly naming himself Secretary
General and taking money from individuals aligned with Government forces.
In March, Kirinyaga Woman Representative, Njeri Maina,
accused Malala of secretly working with rivals to weaken Gachagua, claiming that
he funded MCAs allied to Governor Anne Waiguru to form a splinter faction.
Malala has dismissed reports of a fallout with Gachagua,
insisting that the leadership remains united.
Addressing supporters in Ikolomani, he said: “This
Ruto Government knows it is going home, and today it sponsored propaganda that
Rigathi Gachagua and I have a falling out.”
“I want to tell those who spread that rumour that Rigathi Gachagua
and I are together.”
Meanwhile, Kakamega senatorial candidate, Patrick Butichi, has
alleged that plans are underway to oust Malala from DCP, likening the move to
his earlier removal from UDA.
“He should come back home and work with Senator Edwin Sifuna in
Linda Mwananchi,” Butichi said.
The escalating disputes highlight growing cracks within the
opposition party ahead of the 2027 elections.
