Thursday, April 02, 2026 - Former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, has stunned Kenyans with the announcement that he is selling his multimillion-shilling Club Volume VIP in Mombasa, citing a new spiritual journey that has led him to abandon the alcohol business.
In a post on X, Sonko declared:
“Since choosing to leave alcohol and draw closer to God, I have
made a firm decision to exit the alcohol business completely.”
He added that his exit plan involves selling or leasing the
club and giving away all alcohol stock.
“I will sell or lease the VIP Club or give away all alcohol stock.
This marks a new chapter in my life.”
Sonko accompanied the announcement with a 24-minute video
touring the premises, casually noting that the club could generate up to Ksh 30
million in a single weekend, a figure that left many netizens astonished.
Club Volume VIP is known for its lavish design, featuring
multiple bars, vibrant LED lighting, black granite countertops, gold geometric
wall panels, and upscale finishes that reflect a high-end nightlife experience.
His bold move sparked mixed reactions with some praising his
decision while others questioned the source of Sonko’s wealth, pointing to
corruption allegations that led to his impeachment in December 2020.
However, some netizens noticed the video was recorded on
April 1st (April Fool’s Day) sparking speculation that Sonko may
have been playing a prank on his audience.
