Thursday, April 30, 2026 - Kakamega Woman Representative, Elsie Muhanda, has come under sharp criticism after claiming to have spent a staggering Ksh8.3 million to construct a small toilet at Museno Secondary School.

The controversy erupted after a netizen leaked what was alleged to be the project’s expenditure breakdown, sparking outrage among Kenyans online.

The figures, captured in the books, show:

Actual construction (materials & labour): Ksh300,000

Preliminary site clearance & excavation: Ksh1,500,000

Consultation fees (design & supervision): Ksh2,000,000

Mobilization & transport: Ksh1,500,000

Community sensitization: Ksh1,000,000

Contingency fund: Ksh1,200,000

Monitoring & evaluation (M&E): Ksh700,000

Administrative overhead: Ksh100,000

The figures have left many Kenyans stunned, with critics questioning how such a modest facility could attract such inflated costs.

Netizens have since called on the Ethics and Anti‑Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the matter, terming it blatant misuse of taxpayers’ money.
