Friday, March 27, 2026 - Four police officers have been arrested in connection with a brazen robbery involving millions of shillings in Nairobi, sending shockwaves through law enforcement circles.
The officers were apprehended on Thursday in Embakasi and
are currently being held at Embakasi Police Station, awaiting arraignment as
investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) continue.
According to reports, one of the suspects is attached to the
Office of the Deputy President and had earlier been implicated in a separate
failed robbery incident in Kitengela earlier in the week.
The arrests relate to a robbery reported by a businessman,
owner of Eastern Steel Mart in Utawala.
The victim told police he had withdrawn Ksh 4.2 million from
Equity Bank Utawala branch on March 17th, 2026, intending to
complete a business transaction in Syokimau.
While driving along Mombasa Road, he was allegedly
intercepted by four men dressed in police uniforms and reflective jackets.
Two of them were reportedly armed.
The suspects, believed to have trailed him from the bank
using a red Mazda CX-5, accused him of drug trafficking, handcuffed him and
forced him into their vehicle before robbing him of the cash.
He was later abandoned in Karen and reported the incident at
Karen Police Station.
Following investigations, the suspects were positively
identified during an identification parade at Isinya Police Station.
They have since been presented before a Kajiado court and
are set to appear at Makadara Law Courts on Friday, March 27th,
2026.
Detectives are also linking the officers to a separate
incident in Kitengela involving a civilian who had been lured under the guise
of a business deal involving a diamond necklace valued at over USD 4,000
(approximately KSh 518,000).
In that case, the victim was reportedly moved from Namanga
to Kitengela, where he was attacked, handcuffed and forced to call for help. A
local mob intervened and escorted the suspects to a police station, only for it
to emerge that they were serving officers.
The victim lost the necklace during the ordeal.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement in both incidents.
