Friday, March 27, 2026 - Detectives have arrested four suspects linked to a series of robbery with violence and kidnapping incidents reported since August 2025, following an intelligence-led operation by a joint team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters.
The incidents, marked by a consistent modus operandi, involved victims being abducted, handcuffed, blindfolded, and coerced into disclosing their mobile money (M-Pesa) PINs before being abandoned in Kimende Forest, Lari Sub-County.
The operation, spearheaded by officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CR&IB) and the Operations Action Team (OAT), resulted in the arrest of Benard Kariuki, Ester Waithira Murigi, Brian Mungai, and Police Constable Lawrence Kipkoech, who is attached to Nairobi Railway Police Station. All four suspects have been forensically linked to the crimes.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Police Constable Kipkoech was associated with a key suspect and played a role in facilitating the identification and subsequent arrest of Ester Waithira Murigi.
During interrogation, the suspects disclosed that the handcuffs used in the commission of the offences are in the possession of an accomplice identified only as Alfred, who remains at large. Efforts to trace and apprehend the suspect are ongoing.
The DCI reiterates its commitment to dismantling organized criminal networks and urges members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through established reporting channels.
