Friday, January 16, 2026 - A middle-aged man has died following complications from a botched dental procedure carried out by an unlicensed practitioner in Kawangware, Nairobi.
According to reports, Amos Isoka passed away on
Wednesday, January 15th, while receiving treatment at Kenyatta
National Hospital.
He had spent more than two weeks in critical condition after
developing severe swelling in his neck, tongue, and chest that ultimately led
to fatal breathing difficulties.
Doctors at the hospital’s critical care unit had already
performed two surgeries in an effort to stabilize him.
His wife, Vivian Nekesa, said medics had
recommended a major chest operation scheduled for Thursday, but his condition
worsened overnight.
“The doctor later informed me that his heartbeat worsened during
the night and eventually stopped.”
“They tried to assist him to breathe, but it did not work, and Amos
passed away at around 3 am,” she said.
Preparations are now underway to transport his body to his
rural home in Kapkoi village, Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, for burial.
Family members revealed that Isoka had visited the clinic
for what was expected to be a routine tooth extraction.
However, his health deteriorated rapidly, leaving him in
pain and struggling to eat or speak.
When he returned to the clinic for help, the practitioner
allegedly dismissed his concerns, insisting that the matter was no longer his
responsibility.
Medical staff at Wema Hospital, where he was later admitted,
suspected unsterilized equipment triggered the infection.
Shockingly, the practitioner admitted he was not a licensed
dentist and lacked proper tools to perform safe procedures.
“I wanted to help him, but I did not have the machines or a licence. That was my mistake,” he confessed.
