Thursday, January 08,
2025 - Maurice Ogeta, the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s long‑time
bodyguard and trusted aide, has embarked on a new chapter in his career with a
senior appointment in the Mombasa County Government.
In a statement released on Thursday, January 8th,
2026, Governor Abdulswamad Nassir announced new appointments within the
Executive Office of the Governor, following approvals by the Mombasa County
Public Service Board.
Ogeta has been named Advisor, Security Affairs, a
role the Governor said reflects his vast experience and deep institutional
knowledge.
“The appointment is informed by his many years of experience
and deep institutional knowledge built at local, regional and global levels,
including his service to our Founding Party Leader, H.E. Raila Odinga, C.G.H.,”
the statement read.
Ogeta is widely recognized for his unwavering service to
Raila Odinga, often seen at his side during rallies, protests and private
engagements.
His new role will see him guide Mombasa’s leadership on
matters of public safety, tourism security and urban security management.
The appointment comes just months after President William
Ruto pledged to support Ogeta and Raila’s close security team during the ODM
leader’s burial in October 2025.
“I must thank his security people, Maurice Ogeta,
especially, for standing with Raila always. I remember him in our days in ODM
when he would even wipe our shoes when we came late for campaigns,” Ruto
recalled.
The President assured that the Government will safeguard the
welfare of those who worked closely with Raila, saying they played a vital role
in supporting one of Kenya’s most influential political figures.
“Maurice, I want to tell you that as this Government
preserves Raila’s legacy, we will also take care of you and all those who
looked after him,” Ruto stated.
