2026 - A family in Kawangware Nairobi is crying out for justice after what
should have been a simple dental procedure left their loved one unable to speak
or eat.
According to relatives, the man visited a nearby clinic for
a routine tooth extraction.
But instead of relief, he was plunged into a medical crisis
marked by severe pain, breathing difficulties and an inability to eat.
When he returned to the clinic seeking help, the
practitioner allegedly dismissed his concerns, refusing to issue a referral
letter.
“He told me to go for a scan at Mbagathi, but when I asked
for a transfer letter, he said that was none of his business,” the patient
recalled, his voice strained from illness.
As his condition worsened, the family rushed him to a local
hospital, where doctors suspected unsterilised equipment may have triggered the
complications.
From his hospital bed, the patient struggled to speak: “I am
in pain. I cannot breathe well, and I cannot eat anything.”
His wife described the ordeal as heartbreaking.
“His tongue became heavy. He had to use signs to
communicate. He was trying to tell me he was in pain, but he could not speak
properly,” she said, adding that he has not eaten since the start of the year.
Shockingly, the practitioner later admitted he was not a
licensed dentist and lacked basic equipment.
“I wanted to help him, but I did not have the machines or a
licence. That was my mistake,” he confessed.
The incident has reignited fears about the growing presence
of unlicensed medical practitioners in Nairobi neighbourhoods.
