2026 - Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and President Yoweri
Museveni’s son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has defended his decision to block
CNN African correspondent, Larry Madowo, on the social media platform, X.
In a post shared on Thursday, January 22nd, 2026,
Muhoozi described Madowo as a “msaliti,” a Kiswahili term meaning traitor.
“I blocked @LarryMadowo for one simple reason. It’s best
said in Kiswahili. He is a true Msaliti,” Muhoozi tweeted.
The revelation followed Madowo’s own statement confirming
that the controversial general had blocked him.
Sharing a screenshot of the restriction, Madowo noted that
Muhoozi had previously followed him.
“Muhoozi used to follow me, now he’s blocked me. I wonder
why,” he wrote.
The fallout comes after a heated online exchange between the
two in the aftermath of Uganda’s recent elections.
The dispute was triggered by Muhoozi’s threat to kill the
National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader, Bobi Wine.
Madowo criticized Muhoozi’s comments, questioning whether
his confidence stemmed from being the son of the long-serving Ugandan leader.
“Muhoozi, why are you bragging about killing Ugandans who
support the opposition? Is it because you’re protected by your father,
President Museveni?” Madowo asked.
Muhoozi fired back, accusing the journalist of betraying
Africa while seeking validation from Western audiences.
“Why don’t you call me by my name, Larry? How long will you
kiss the Muzungu’s in the USA pretending to represent us?” he retorted.
The spat escalated further as Madowo referenced earlier statements in which Muhoozi vowed to “remove and extinguish” Bobi Wine’s party following his father’s electoral victory.
