Friday, January 30,
2026 - Detectives have raided a butchery in Kasarani that was being used as
a front for narcotics trafficking.
Officers from the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU)
and the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) arrested the operator of East Butchery in the
Marurui area after acting on credible intelligence linking the premises to the
sale of cannabis.
The suspect, identified as Paul Mwangi Karanja, was
apprehended during a coordinated raid that exposed an elaborate scheme designed
to beat detection.
A search of the butchery led to the recovery of a sizeable
haul of drugs, including 81 rolls of bhang, 18 cannabis-laced cookies, 13
sim-sim rolls, and five small mabuyu containers infused with cannabis.
Detectives say the suspect had disguised the drugs as
ordinary merchandise to avoid raising suspicion among customers and
authorities.
During the same operation, a delivery rider, Willinton
Nadwa, was arrested after he was caught red-handed delivering 14 rolls of bhang
to the premises.
In a separate but related operation, ANU detectives
intercepted a Nairobi-bound matatu along the Nakuru - Nairobi Highway at a
roadblock in Limuru, Kiambu County.
A search led to the arrest of Judith Faith Oriende, who was
found carrying a brown suitcase containing three packages of bhang wrapped in
yellow cellotape.
All suspects are currently in police custody awaiting
arraignment, while the recovered narcotics have been secured as exhibits.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reiterated its commitment to dismantling drug networks through intelligence-led operations as part of the ongoing war against narcotics trafficking.
