Thursday, January 15, 2026 - The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has dismissed claims by Juja Member of Parliament, George Koimburi, that he has defected from the party.
In a statement issued on Thursday, January 15th,
DCP Secretary General, Hezron Obaga, clarified that Koimburi has never been a
registered member of the party.
Obaga noted that despite previously being seen as an ally of
party leader Rigathi Gachagua, the Juja legislator has not attended any public
engagements with him for the past six months.
“Let it be known that Hon. Koimburi has never been a member
of the party and has never been involved in party activities.”
“Indeed, despite having been an ally of the party leader, he
has not accompanied him in any public function for the last six months while
giving all manner of excuses,” Obaga stated.
The Secretary General further alleged that Koimburi’s
loyalty has long been in question, with suspicions that he may have been
recruited by Government operatives to spy on the party in exchange for leniency
in ongoing cases.
Obaga recalled an incident where Gachagua defended Koimburi
over an alleged abduction, only to later learn that the MP had staged the
incident to avoid arrest in a land fraud case.
Obaga also revealed that on January 12th,
Koimburi demanded the removal of his rival Aloise Kinyanjui from the party and
insisted that legislators who opposed Gachagua’s impeachment should be granted
direct nominations for the 2027 General Elections.
Gachagua, however, rejected the proposal, stressing that all
aspirants must undergo competitive nominations.
On Wednesday, January 14th, Koimburi announced that
he had ditched Gachagua’s camp, accusing him of betrayal.
“I was a die-hard supporter of Rigathi Gachagua… I cannot
accept a party that takes bribes or demands money from people who want to
contest for certain positions,” Koimburi declared.
