Blow to RIGATHI GACHAGUA as his key Mt Kenya ally announces break from active politics

Thursday, January 22, 2026 - Former Kigumo Constituency Member of Parliament, Jamleck Kamau, has announced that he is stepping back from active politics, citing reasons beyond his control.

In a statement issued on Thursday, January 22nd, Kamau thanked his supporters for their continued loyalty and assured them that he will remain engaged with them despite his absence from the political frontline.

“Due to reasons beyond my control, I have decided to take a break from active politics.”

“I want to specifically thank all my supporters and assure you that I will continue engaging and consulting you as we move forward,” he said.

Kamau, who served as Kigumo MP for two terms between 2007 and 2017, emphasized that his retreat from politics is temporary, promising a comeback in the near future.

“Be back soon. God bless you all, and God bless this our country, Kenya,” he added.

The former lawmaker contested the Murang’a gubernatorial seat in the 2022 General Elections on a Jubilee Party ticket but lost to UDA’s Irungu Kang’ata.

In June 2025, he joined Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), where he was welcomed as a key member.

Kamau has expressed interest in vying for the Murang’a Governorship again in 2027 under the DCP banner.

His announcement comes amid turbulence within Gachagua’s party.

Just days earlier, Juja MP, George Koimburi, declared that he had ditched DCP, accusing Gachagua of betrayal despite his loyalty during the former Deputy President’s impeachment.

Kamau’s decision to step back adds a new twist to Murang’a’s political landscape as the countdown to the 2027 elections begins.
