Monday, January 26, 2026 - Residents of Maji-Moto in Narok South are living in fear following a violent attack that left property destroyed and one person critically injured, following what locals describe as a long-running land dispute.
Narok South parliamentary aspirant, David
Matunke Mayone, alongside his brother Edward
Oyianoi Mayone and a group of men, allegedly descended on the
home of the Turere Sayialel family, unleashing terror
on the household.
During the attack, a vehicle and two motorbikes were set
ablaze, reducing the family’s property to ashes.
One family member sustained serious injuries and is
currently fighting for their life.
According to residents, the incident was not spontaneous.
Days before the attack, threats were allegedly
issued to Maji-Moto residents, warning that people will be
killed.
Community members say the threats were formally reported to
security agencies, and concerns were raised over rising tensions linked to land
ownership in the area.
However, no preventive action was taken.
“This is not just an attack on one family. It is an indictment of a system that ignores threats until homes are burned and lives hang in the balance,” a resident said.
