Tuesday, December 9,
2025 - Fresh details indicate that the two suspected robbers shot dead
along Moi Avenue were part of a five-man gang that attacked a Sacco official
shortly after he withdrew cash from a bank.
According
to police reports, the victim, an official with Embassava Matatu Sacco, had withdrawn money for office use and was
walking near Kenneth Matiba Road when the gang confronted him, seizing the cash
and his mobile phone.
Plainclothes
officers who were on patrol responded swiftly, pursuing the suspects.
Two
were fatally shot, while three others managed to escape, with one believed to
have been injured during the chase.
Police
deployed teargas to disperse crowds that had gathered at the scene before
moving the bodies to the mortuary.
A
manhunt has been launched for the remaining suspects.
Detectives
say the gang may be linked to a
series of similar robberies targeting individuals leaving banking halls.
This
includes a November 13th incident in which a man was attacked
shortly after exiting an Equity Bank branch.
Investigators are exploring the possibility of collusion involving rogue insiders in the bank, who might be tipping off criminals about cash withdrawals.
