17, 2025 - President William Ruto has signaled his willingness to work with
the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ahead of the 2027 General Elections,
but with a clear condition.
Speaking in Migori County on Wednesday, December 17th,
during the 5th Piny Luo Festival, the Head of State declared that
ODM must first unite and strengthen itself before entering into any agreement
with his party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
“I am calling on the ODM party to strategise itself and
remain strong. We want a strong ODM so that we can plan Kenyan affairs
together,” Ruto said.
He added, “If you make ODM stronger, I will also make my
party UDA stronger so that we can meet and form a Government through an
agreement.”
The President also reflected on his past political journey
with ODM under the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, acknowledging
Odinga’s role in shaping his career.
“Raila is the one who taught us politics. I was his best
student, and he immensely contributed to my presidency,” Ruto remarked.
In recent months, Ruto has increasingly positioned himself
as a defender of Odinga’s legacy following his death.
Just last month, while addressing the ODM Founders’ dinner
in Mombasa, he praised the party’s resilience, noting that despite Raila’s
passing, ODM has remained strong and risen above personal, regional, and tribal
politics.
