Government announces plans to tarmac road leading to KALONZO’s home in Tseikuru days after RUTO’s fiery remarks

Tuesday, December 23, 2025 - The Government has unveiled plans to upgrade the Kyuso-Tseikuru Road in Kitui County, a route leading to Tseikuru, the native home of Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka.

The announcement follows a tender notice published by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Tuesday, December 23rd, inviting bids for the strengthening and upgrading of the road to durable bitumen standards.

KeNHA confirmed that a mandatory pre‑tender site visit will take place at Kandwia Shopping Centre on January 15th, 2026, at 10 a.m.

Tender documents are available on the Authority’s website and the Public Procurement Information Portal (PPIP).

The road has remained dusty and muddy for decades, despite repeated calls for improvement.

The timing of the announcement has sparked political speculation, coming just days after President William Ruto’s fiery remarks targeting Kalonzo.

On December 15th, Ruto questioned why the road had not been upgraded during Kalonzo’s four‑decade political career, including his tenure as Vice President under the late President Mwai Kibaki.

“How do you campaign for development when the road to your own home is still dusty?” Ruto asked.

In response, Kalonzo accused the Head of State of focusing on personal attacks rather than delivering infrastructure projects nationwide.

He defended his record, citing major initiatives he oversaw in Kitui and across the region.
