Family of former MP who succeeded the late CYRUS JIRONGO raises concerns over his death, alleges food poisoning! “We have details we can’t disclose now”

Tuesday, December 23, 2025 - The family of former Likuyani Member of Parliament, Enoch Kibunguchy, who passed away on Tuesday, December 23rd, has raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding his death.

Speaking at the late legislator’s home in Kakamega County, relatives claimed Kibunguchy may have succumbed to suspected food poisoning.

They urged authorities to launch immediate investigations, citing medical findings made while he was alive.

According to his nephew, Kibunguchy , 72,  first fell ill at home, where efforts to manage his condition proved unsuccessful, prompting his transfer to hospital.

“We thought it might be blood pressure, but when doctors ran tests and said it was food poisoning, it raised a red flag,” he explained.

Despite medical intervention, Kibunguchy’s condition worsened.

Doctors reportedly told the family that the poisoning had severely affected his body, leading to complications such as kidney failure, intestinal bleeding and breathing difficulties.

The family questioned the aggressiveness of the illness, suggesting it did not align with typical food poisoning cases.

“We have details we cannot disclose now. It is for investigators to establish how the poisoning came about,” the nephew added.

The former legislator succeeded Cyrus Jirongo as Lugari MP, serving from 2003 to 2007.

He later represented Likuyani Constituency for two consecutive terms between 2013 and 2022.
