2025 - A family in Garissa is demanding answers after the body of a
25-year-old General Service Unit (GSU) officer was discovered just metres from
the camp where he was stationed at Damajali, near the Kenya-Somalia border.
The officer’s body was found approximately 50 metres from
the camp, sparking suspicion among relatives and local leaders.
One community leader alleged that the officer may have been
killed by people close to him.
“But we have heard that he was murdered close to the
camp.”
“We suspect that he was murdered by close people among
the workers themselves,” he said.
The deceased’s sister also disputed earlier reports
suggesting suicide, insisting that what she observed pointed to foul play.
Garissa Town legislator, Dekow Mohamed, echoed these
concerns, stating:
“We highly suspect his death to be very mysterious, and
there was foul play in the circumstances in which he died.”
The family has urged the Directorate of Criminal
Investigations (DCI) to conduct a thorough and transparent probe to establish
the actual cause of death.
Samples from the Garissa officer’s body have been taken to
the Government laboratory for analysis as investigations continue.
