2025 - Nairobi Chief County Officer, Geoffrey Mosiria, has spoken out on
the circumstances surrounding his removal from the county’s environmental
docket, claiming powerful cartels engineered his demotion.
Addressing the press, Mosiria said the decision did not come
as a surprise, noting that his strict enforcement measures had unsettled
individuals he described as “untouchables.”
He was transferred to the citizen engagement and customer
services docket following a reshuffle by Governor Johnson Sakaja.
“I indeed trampled on those who are untouchable until some
of them got irritated by me.”
“But I do not fear man, I only fear God, who is powerful,”
Mosiria stated.
He recalled halting several unlawful constructions,
including one linked to a wealthy and influential figure, which triggered a backlash.
“Some people were building on the river, and many of them
had big clubs.”
“We went and stopped them. Before I was taken away, I
remember stopping a big club that had not been touched,” he added.
Mosiria maintained that his actions were driven by public
concerns rather than politics, insisting that closing unlawful clubs and
developments was necessary to protect Nairobi residents.
Despite what he termed a demotion, Mosiria vowed to continue
serving diligently.
“I am still working to help the people. When I entered the
environment docket, people thought it was a small office, but they later saw
its importance.”
“I look at the office in terms of the service we offer,” he
reiterated.
In a notice dated November 18th, 2025, Mosiria
was replaced by Hibram Otieno, formerly in charge of medical facilities.
His tenure in the environment docket had seen routine
inspections and enforcement leading to the closure of several clubs in
residential areas.
