Thursday, November 20, 2025 - Senior Nairobi County official, Geoffrey Mosiria, has stepped in to assist a legendary East African musician who was found homeless in the streets of Nairobi.
Mosiria said he acted immediately after receiving a report
that the veteran artist, the founder of the iconic Simba wa Nyika band,
which later evolved into Les Wanyika, had been living in distress and
without shelter.
“Today, I rescued from the streets of Nairobi the
legendary musician and founder of the Simba wa Nyika band… He has been
suffering on the streets, homeless and vulnerable, and as a Government, we
cannot sit back and watch a Nairobi resident suffer,” Mosiria
stated.
He provided the elderly musician with new clothes and
shoes, and personally escorted him to a home for the elderly, where he can
now receive shelter, medical attention and proper care.
Mosiria also appealed to anyone who may know the musician’s
relatives to come forward, noting that the disgraced artist hails from
Tanzania.
“We shall continue to support the less fortunate in our
society - na lazima tufanye hii kazi,” he added.
