BABU OWINO petitions MUDAVADI to act over Kenyan teacher who was killed in Tanzania’s election protests - “I Write to You With a Heavy Heart”

Wednesday, November 05, 2025 - Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, has formally petitioned Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to intervene following the killing of Kenyan teacher, John Ogutu, in Tanzania during post-election unrest.

In a letter dated Wednesday, November 5th, 2025, Owino expressed deep sorrow over Ogutu’s death.

“I write to you with a heavy heart and deep concern regarding the tragic killing of a Kenyan citizen, John Ogutu, who was serving as a teacher in Tanzania,” the MP stated.

Owino urged the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs to launch a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ogutu’s death, engage Tanzanian authorities diplomatically, and ensure justice is served.

He also called for the immediate repatriation of Ogutu’s remains at the Government’s expense and requested that consular and counselling support be extended to the grieving family.

The MP emphasized that Kenya’s foreign policy must prioritize the protection of its citizens abroad, especially in volatile regions.

“The family of Ogutu, and indeed the Kenyan people, deserve nothing less than justice and transparency for this reprehensible act,” he wrote.

This comes amid reports that Kenyans in Tanzania are living in fear after it emerged that the Government is targeting them and accusing them of leading the protests that broke out after Samia Suluhu’s controversial election win.
