2025 - A Kenya Airways flight transporting the body of former Prime
Minister Raila Odinga from India to Nairobi became the most tracked aircraft
globally on Flightradar24 late Wednesday.
The flight, initially designated KQA202, departed Jomo
Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 6:30 p.m and headed to Mumbai, drawing
over 7,000 online trackers by midnight.
Upon its return, the flight was renamed RAO001 in tribute to
Odinga.
Kenya Airways confirmed the change as the aircraft entered
Kenyan airspace early Thursday.
The return leg, KQA203, was followed by more than 34,000
people.
Odinga, 80, died in Kochi, India, where he had been
receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.
President William Ruto declared a seven-day national
mourning period, with flags flying at half-mast nationwide.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki released a four-day State
funeral plan.
On Thursday morning, President Ruto and Odinga’s family
received the body at JKIA before it was transferred to Lee Funeral Home.
A state funeral service is scheduled for Friday at Nyayo
Stadium, followed by an overnight stay at Odinga’s Karen residence.
On Saturday, the body will be flown to Kisumu for viewing at
Moi Stadium, then transported to Bondo for burial on Sunday, in accordance with
Odinga’s wishes to be laid to rest within 72 hours of his passing.
