Monday, October 13, 2025 - Kitui Central MP, Makali Mulu, has confirmed that the United Opposition will unveil its presidential candidate at least one year before the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking during a radio interview on Monday, October 13th,
2025, Mulu emphasized that the early announcement will give Kenyans ample time
to scrutinize the nominee and assess their leadership credentials.
Mulu, a close ally of Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka,
said the opposition is committed to a transparent and inclusive process aimed
at selecting a candidate capable of uniting the coalition’s diverse political
factions.
He downplayed reports of internal tensions, describing them
as normal in any coalition-building effort.
“There is push and pull because these individuals come from
different political backgrounds.”
“For them to agree, there must be give and take,” Mulu
explained.
He assured Kenyans that all parties within the coalition
have pledged to support the eventual nominee, adding that opinion polls are
being conducted nationwide to identify the most viable candidate.
“Kenyans should have no issues with this.”
“As we approach the election, there will be a day when we announce the
candidate, and all parties have committed to rally behind them,” he added.
Mulu also noted that party manifestos are being harmonized
to form a unified agenda.
“We’re not going to present a candidate three months to the
election.”
“Kenyans will have at least one year to understand their
history, performance, and potential,” he affirmed.
Mulu also dismissed reports of friction between leaders like
Rigathi Gachagua and Fred Matiang’i, saying such dynamics are part of normal
negotiations.
