Thursday, October 30, 2025 - A video has gone viral on social media showing a Kenyan police officer desperately pleading with a group of Kenyans to return to their side of the border after they crossed into Tanzania to join local demonstrators in protests.
The incident reportedly occurred at the Namanga border, a
busy crossing point between Kenya and Tanzania, where tensions briefly flared
after some locals attempted to cross over to Tanzania to join demonstrators
protesting against what they termed as a rigged General Election.
In the viral video, the visibly frustrated officer can be
seen trying to disperse the group while pleading with them to return from the
Tanzanian territory.
Despite his pleas, a section of the crowd is seen chanting
slogans and defiantly marching into Tanzania.
Protests have escalated in major cities across Tanzania as
opposition supporters denounce Wednesday’s presidential and parliamentary
elections as a sham.
Hundreds of demonstrators have reportedly barricaded roads,
lit bonfires, and torn down posters of President Samia Suluhu Hassan in
defiance.
The protesters accuse the Government of undermining
democracy, pointing out that the main opposition leader remains in jail while
another prominent contender was disqualified from the race, a move that
significantly boosted Samia’s chances of victory.
