Wednesday, September 3, 2025 - As the countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup begins, the United States Government is urging prospective attendees to kick off their visa applications now.
In a statement released on Wednesday, September 3rd,
the U.S. Department of State Consular Affairs announced that its embassies and
consulates are working diligently to streamline the process for the expected
influx of international fans.
"Foreign travelers planning to attend a 2026 World Cup
match in the United States who need a U.S visa should apply now," the
department stated.
"Our embassies and consulates are working diligently to
ensure an efficient, smooth, and effective visa process that protects America’s
security."
The 2026 World Cup is a landmark event, set to be co-hosted
by three countries - the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The tournament will unfold in 16 cities, with 11 host venues
in the U.S alongside three in Mexico and two in Canada.
Iconic stadiums like MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, AT&T
Stadium in Texas, and Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca are scheduled to host key
matches, including the final.
This advisory follows recent updates to the U.S visa
application process.
The U.S Embassy in Nairobi recently cautioned visa
applicants to be completely transparent about their social media accounts.
Since 2019, the U.S Government has required both immigrant
and nonimmigrant visa applicants to provide their social media identifiers on
application forms as part of a broader vetting process.
"Omitting social media information could lead to visa
denial and ineligibility for future visas," the Embassy warned.
This measure is intended to help identify applicants who may
pose a threat to national security, emphasizing the importance of accurate and
truthful information on the DS-160 application form.
