Friday, September 5, 2025 - Police in Lugari Sub-county have arrested two suspects in connection with railway vandalism during a joint intelligence-led operation.
The sting operation, led by Inspector Joseph Muchele,
involved officers from Bungoma Railways, Kipkaren Railways Patrol Base, and the
Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) security unit.
During a raid on the home of Geoffrey Kiprotich, 35, officers recovered 65 pandrol clips hidden
inside his house.
Following interrogation, Kiprotich implicated his
accomplice, Nicholas
Macharia, 60, a resident of Mwamba in Lugari, whom he
identified as the transporter of the stolen railway materials to an undisclosed
dealer.
Macharia was later arrested at his home.
Both suspects are currently being held at Bungoma Central Police Station
pending arraignment.
Investigations are ongoing to trace the final recipient of
the stolen items and to recover additional railway infrastructure.
Authorities have reminded the public that railway vandalism is a serious crime under Kenyan law, warning that offenders will face arrest, prosecution, and stiff penalties.
