Wednesday, September 3, 2025 - Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has launched a scathing attack against President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of reckless spending following revelations that the State House spent over KSh 817 million on printing in the 2024/2025 financial year.
In a statement posted on his X account on Wednesday,
September 3rd, Olekina criticized the expenditure as unnecessary and
tone-deaf, especially amid rising living costs affecting ordinary Kenyans.
“You may not like what I have to say, but I’ll say it
anyway: State House lunches = waste of public funds.”
“Bus rides, per diems and buffets don’t build roads or
jobs,” he wrote, urging the President to suspend ceremonial functions and
county tours for 100 days and instead embrace digital town halls.
Olekina argued that the funds could have been better used
for development projects such as infrastructure and employment creation.
He also called for a shift toward modern, transparent, and
fiscally responsible governance.
His remarks came shortly after Controller of Budget Margaret
Nyakang’o released a report detailing State House’s printing expenses, which
averaged Ksh 2.2 million daily.
The report also revealed that hundreds of millions were
spent on advisory services, including Ksh 450 million on counter-terrorism and
Ksh 251 million on oversight of public entities.
The revelations have sparked public debate, with many
Kenyans questioning the Government’s priorities and calling for greater
accountability in public spending.
