Thursday, September 4, 2025 - Vocal Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, has acknowledged that he is unlikely to receive the ODM Party’s endorsement to run for Nairobi Governor in the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking during a Kameme TV breakfast show on Thursday,
September 4th, Owino said ODM leader, Raila Odinga’s recent actions
suggest that he has already settled on a preferred candidate - Governor Johnson
Sakaja.
“I am sure I will not get the ODM ticket to vie for Nairobi
Governor in 2027. Sakaja was endorsed by Raila in Bomas during the AUC prayer
meeting,” Owino stated.
Despite his disappointment, Owino affirmed his continued
respect for Raila, whom he referred to as his “political godfather,” while
noting that his future remains guided by faith.
Owino also expressed frustration over being sidelined within
the party, citing Sakaja’s recent political support from both Raila and
President William Ruto as evidence of shifting loyalties.
“When Sakaja was endorsed and rescued by Raila and Ruto, it
showed my presence in the party is no longer valued,” he said.
He defended his loyalty to ODM, recalling his detention
during anti-Government protests and his unwavering support for Raila.
Meanwhile, Raila has publicly backed Sakaja’s leadership,
urging Nairobi MCAs to give the Governor time to address grievances and hinting
at his re-election support.
Owino, however, remains critical of Sakaja’s performance,
claiming that the Governor has failed Nairobi residents and suggesting that
those endorsing him may be motivated by personal gain.
