Thursday, September 4, 2025 - A Zambian woman and a Kenyan man have been arraigned in court after allegedly failing to settle an accommodation bill at an Airbnb residence in Nairobi.
Namoonga Chilala and Barrack Odongo are
accused of incurring a debt of Sh 92,000 after spending 22 days as
guests at West Breeze Residence in Upper Hill between August 4th
and September 1st, 2025.
According to the charge sheet, the two allegedly obtained
the services by falsely pretending that they were in a position to pay for the
accommodation.
The management reported them after the bill remained unpaid.
Appearing before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate
Benmark Ekhubi, the duo denied the charges.
The court ordered each of them to deposit a cash bail
of Sh30,000 to secure their release as the case proceeds.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over rising cases of
fraud targeting short-stay accommodation facilities in Nairobi.
