Friday, August 15, 2025 - The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for the Malava Constituency by-election, Enock Musambai Andanje, has died after collapsing at his home.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi confirmed the news
on Friday, August 15th, stating that Andanje was preparing to attend
an empowerment event he was due to preside over when tragedy struck.
“While we have been here, I have received a message that one
of us, Enock Musambai Andanje, while preparing to come here, has passed away,”
Mudavadi said.
The Malava seat became vacant following the death of
long-serving MP Moses Malulu Injendi on February 17, 2025.
Injendi, who had represented the constituency since 2013,
died at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula eulogised him as
a dedicated leader who championed education reforms and the sugar industry.
In the wake of Injendi’s death, the Independent Electoral
and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) scheduled a by-election for November 27th,
2025.
UDA had announced its party primaries would be held on
September 20th, 2025, with applications for nomination closing on
September 5th.
The party, through its National Elections Board Chairman
Anthony Mwaura, had invited aspirants to register via the UDA online portal.
Andanje had emerged as the party’s flagbearer for the
upcoming poll before his sudden death.
His passing now throws the UDA’s preparations into
uncertainty, with the party expected to announce the way forward in the coming
days.
