Tuesday, August 26, 2025 - Kakamega Senator and Senate Majority Whip, Boni Khalwale, has called for the resignation of Health Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale, over mounting controversies at the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Duale has faced scrutiny following revelations that the SHA
allegedly paid millions to ghost health facilities.
Appearing before lawmakers on Monday, August 25th,
the CS admitted that fraudulent claims had infiltrated the system, exposing how
service providers billed inpatient admissions as outpatient cases and used
forged documents to siphon millions.
He revealed that claims worth KSh 10.6 billion were rejected
under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) due to irregularities.
Following the admission, Khalwale said Duale must take
political responsibility for the scandal.
“If a political debt is due to Hon. Duale, whoever owes him
should not expect Kenyans to repay him with their blood and lives through the
scandalous SHA. CS Duale must go.”
“The lives of 57.5 million Kenyans cannot be left at the
mercy of these two men,” he said, also demanding the exit of SHA board
chairperson, Abdi Mohammed.
Duale, however, dismissed the attacks, blaming cartels and
saboteurs opposed to healthcare reforms.
“No amount of blackmail will deter us from fixing our
healthcare system.”
“We will not rest until every Kenyan has access to
affordable and dignified healthcare,” Duale wrote on X.
