Tuesday, August 19, 2025 - Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has warned against any political disruptions ahead of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s much-anticipated return to the country.
Speaking on Tuesday, August 19th, Murkomen said
the Government will not tolerate any interference during the Confederation of
African Football (CAF) tournament, urging political actors to exercise
restraint.
“Any interference from political actors, both within the
country and those returning, will not be tolerated during this match. We want
peace to prevail in our nation,” the CS stated.
He added that the Government was working closely with CAF
officials to ensure order during the games while calling on Kenyans to rally
behind Harambee Stars.
“Once CAF gives us directions, we will again remind Kenyans
to support Harambee Stars, respect the rules, and make the experience
seamless,” he said.
Gachagua is expected to arrive on Thursday, August 21st,
after cutting short a tour in the United States.
The Democratic Citizen Party of Kenya (DCP) has mobilized
supporters to welcome him.
Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala confirmed the schedule
and urged Kenyans to gather at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport from 8 AM
for what he described as “a mother of all peaceful processions.”
Malala further alleged that state operatives were plotting
to arrest or even harm Gachagua upon arrival, citing intelligence reports.
He warned that if the plane was diverted, supporters in
Kisumu and Mombasa will stage mass demonstrations.
“This is not just a welcome - it is a statement that Kenya
belongs to her people, not to a clique of power-hungry men who weaponise the
state against its citizens,” Malala said.
