Monday, August 4, 2025 - Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, has made it clear that he will step down from his position if the party chooses to support President William Ruto’s re-election bid in the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking in Saboti, Trans Nzoia County, the Nairobi Senator
stated that while he is willing to read all ODM statements, even those that
criticize him, endorsing Ruto is a red line he won’t cross.
“I am ready to read all ODM statements, even if they insult
me.”
“But the day they decide the party will support Ruto in
2027, I want to say before you and before God - that’s something I will not
read,” Sifuna declared.
He further joked that Nyando MP, Jared Okello, should
prepare to take over his role.
“They’ll need someone else to read that statement. I hear my
friend Jared Okello speaks good English. Okello, be ready to take up the job,”
he added.
Sifuna, a consistent critic of the Ruto administration, has
described removing the President from office as a national priority.
While a section of ODM members have called for Sifuna’s
ouster, party leader Raila Odinga has backed the Nairobi Senator’s right to
express independent views, saying the party welcomes internal debate as part of
its democratic principles.
